survival analysis

George. J. Pappas
Hello everyone,
I am using SPSS to perform a survival analysis in cancer patients. The goal is to assess the prognostic significance of a novel marker, the main events are : death (overall survival) and disease recurrence (disease-free survival). I am using the Kaplan – Meier and the cox-regression analysis. My data includes patients with metastatic disease(stage IV),  in this group disease recurrence has no meaning since these patients have already progressed disease and the goal is palliative treatment. When performing survival analysis regarding disease-free survival should these patients be excluded (the censored data will include patients with advanced disease (stage IV) and zero recurrence)? Is there any other way?
Thank you.
