syntax: close a spss file

drfg2008
SPSS 17 (Win Vista):

is there a syntax command to close (or drop) an spss file (that has / or has no filename) ?

In the 1st example I want to close SPSS files that are not active (but open). Some files have a filename, some  don't.

In the 2nd example I would like to delete an existing spss file (with a syntax command). Is there a command (as in PHP) like "delete file" ? Couldn't find a solution in the syntax reference guide

(if there is no syntax command, maybe you know a solution with python?)

Thank you
Dr. Frank Gaeth

>>>Assuming that you are referring to data files, take a look at the DATASET CLOSE command.  You can refer to dataset (not file) names or use DATASET CLOSE ALL.

>>>Look up the ERASE command.
