Are you sure about that file?  The text you are showing indicates that it is an sav file, not a syntax file.

I opened my saved syntax file today and the file is filled with weird
characters. Mostly boxes. Also there area only 385 lines of this
gibberish instead of the 1600 or so that I had of readable syntax.
Any ideas??
