I have just completed and uploaded a couple of new tutorials to Block 2: Analysing one variable.
http://surveyresearch.weebly.com/block-2-analysing-one-variable.html
They deal conditional frequencies as a transition from analysing one variable to analysing two or more.
The specimen answer is a very detailed syntax-based work-through (with some elements replicated using the GUI) to read two variables, sex and income (grouped), from the original raw data of the 1986 British Social Attitudes survey (N = 3100, 23 records) with:
Data list
Frequencies (as a check on data values)
Missing values

GUI: Utilities > variables
Value labels
GUI: to insert value labels via menu
Frequencies

Select if [Women]
Frequencies /barchart

Select if [Men]
Frequencies /barchart
Given the differences in income for men and women, users are then asked to think about other variables that might affect income. The tutorial is a preliminary step towards joint frequency distributions (crosstabs) in Block 3 : Analysing two variables (or more).
If any of you have students or trainees, they will hopefully find the new tutorials interesting and valuable learning tools.
