Panel data (longitudinal data) vs. cross-sectional data

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to put together a brief document describing the advantages and disadvantages of using panel data versus using cross-sectional data.

I've come across different papers:

But they seem rather complicated to understand since I don't have a mathematical/statistical background.

I would really appreciate if anyone could point out any paper/link or tell me how to best tackle this issue.
