spearman & Guttmamn

Hi everybody

I have 40 dichotomously scored items , for reliability purposes I tried different options offered by SPSS : even though alpha was (0.69), split half, ….. but the correlation between the two forms was low spearman Broun and Guttmann indicators were negative and surprisingly low

Can anybody please give explanation and suggestions
