I saw your question regarding connecting SPSS to hadoop using Hive or Hbase and am facing similar questions.  Did you ever receive any help or find answers?  
We have a data platform built on hadoop that has Hive and Hbase available and my team is wanting to use the data from the platform in a more statistical manner than what it has been thus far.  We want to use SPSS to plug into the platform and import data for our analyses so I would be interested in any insight you may have as I haven’t been able to turn up many answers thus far.
