unbalanced design with empty cells

I have an unbalanced design with empty cells, so I've determined that I
need to run a linear mixed model.  I've run the analyses, and I'm
confident that I executed them properly, but I'm not sure I specified the
appropriate repeated covariance type.  I also need to run binary logistic
regression analyses on some other data for this project, and I've never
used this analysis before.

Can anyone suggest a good resource to check my methodology?
