try this:
SAVE TRANSLATE
/CONNECT='DSN=Excel
Files;DBQ=C:\temp\verbatims.xls;DriverId=790;MaxBufferSize=2048;PageTimeout=5;'
/TABLE="verbatim1"
/TYPE=ODBC
/KEEP=id verbatim1
/REPLACE.
it will save the variable 'verbatim1' along with the unique identifier
'id' to a specified sheet with the same name, you must run this syntax
for each string variable in your data file.
you can encapsulate this piece of code into a macro, in order to automate it.
