Access to SPSS

Charlotte-9
Dear list,

Could someone tell me how to export a very large Access table (over
100,000 records into SPSS).  I would ususally export into Excel first, but
there is a row limit in Excel of around 65000 which is posing problems.
Any suggestions please?  I'm not particularly familiar with Access, so the
easier the better!!

Thanks,

Lou

Re: Access to SPSS

Roberts, Michael
Hi Lou,

I have had pretty good results with saving the file as a dbIV, then
opening it with SPSS.

Use the Database Wizard in SPSS (generates Get Data /Type=ODBC syntax) to read the Access table into SPSS.

Hi again,

I have tried open my Access database in SPSS through the suggested method
and all works well, but then the programme keeps closing with an 'error
message' before the data opens.  Is this because the data table is so
large or is it likely to just be a problem with my SPSS programme?

Thanks,

Lou

Re: Access to SPSS

San K
Lou,

You may want to try these

- If you are using SPSS 14 then you may want to installed the patch they
released. I had less crashes after that (my issues were related to Excel
though).

- Make sure that you installed all the correct database access packs and use
the correct one for the connection.
