I am trying to learn of all the table functions that are offered by SPSS. Particularly, I'm interested in Custom Tables. In the past, I've always done general frequency tables for my clients, and then created summary tables in Excel. I'd like to cut out that second step.
I haven't been able to find a good reference for SPSS tables and I don't have time to teach myself by trial and error. Anyone know of some good books or sites? Thanks! Sarah --------------------------------- Shape Yahoo! in your own image. Join our Network Research Panel today! |

SPSS sells a book on CTABLES, actually they have 2 books one basic and one
more advanced. The books are quite expensive between $70 and $100, so it might be worth it to learn ctables through trial and error, to run basic frequencies and other summary tables will not take you long to learn. If formatting is causing you some headaches, you might also want to look into changing the table look files to accommodate the formatting style your organization uses. Hi
Why not use the "SPSS Tables 14.0.pdf" electronic book that comes with SPSS 15? And if that's not particularly helpful, feel free to send me your comment explaining its inadequacies. Seriously. I can't promise that we can fix it to meet all your needs, but any and all feedback is useful.

If this was also included with SPSS 14, where does it install by
default? I can find the Syntax Reference Guide (spssbase.pdf in the top SPSS directory) but nothing that looks like the Tables pdf. Thanks. It's not installed. It's provided on the separate Manuals CD.

P.S. The CTables syntax is on p. 424 of the spssbase.pdf for SPSS 15.

I should be grateful if the List could provide feedback on the effectiveness/logic/ease of use of the Text Analysis plug-in?
