Please give more detail on the context in which this question arises.
Are you trying to create or evaluate a summative scale? FACTOR and RELIABILITY could be what you would need. Recall that, as surprising as it is to some people, dichotomous variables are at the interval level of measurement. Since there is only 1 interval, all intervals are perfectly identical to each other.

Item Response Theory / Rasch Models. In SPSS, one could fit a bifactor exploratory model employing the Schmid-Leiman method. This requires knowledge of the MATRIX command. Alternatively, one could utilize the very user-friendly experimental IRT procedure in SAS. Ryan

Thank you all for your comments. Yes, I am aware of the IRT and Rasch Analysis. However, reviewers who are not aware of IRT and Rasch Analysis insist to use traditional approach of testing unidimentionality of a construct before it will be subjected to IRT/Rasch.
