I know that in SPSS you can specify the number of factors to extract but as for specifying which variable falls on which factor, I don't think you can do that in SPSS.  I usually use structural equation modeling for CFA (and since I was taught SEM with LISREL, that's the program I use).  You might be able to do this in AMOS, which I haven't gotten to work with yet, so I can't help you there.  But if you need any assistance with LISREL, feel free to contact me off list.

hej johnny

spss can not perform a confirmatory factor analysis, you can very well
specify if you only want one or two factors in spss when you do an efa,
but this does not tell you how good your solution fits to the data,
therefore you have to use structural equation modeling where you can
test different solutions and also have a criterion (several fit
statistics) how well your theoretical factor is represented by the data.
