I’m finding that sometimes when I close one window all
windows are closed, even if the data in them hasn’t been saved. No dialog
pops up to ask if I want to save they are just closed, and I’m just left
with the syntax and output remaining open. I’m using 17.0.3. Matthew Pirritano, Ph.D. Research Analyst IV Medical Services Initiative (MSI) Orange County Health Care Agency (714) 568-5648 |

And, are you using SPSS over a network, or is any of your data on a network drive? What you report is very odd indeed. It certainly isn't supposed to happen, it usually doesn't, and I don't recall anything like it being reported. For all that, you may be experiencing it; rare and odd things do occur. What do you do to close the data window? I suppose, you click the red X in the upper right-hand corner of the data-editor window; but confirm that, or tell us what else you're doing. And it's very strange that you're "left with the syntax and output remaining open". SPSS is not supposed to remain open with no data editor window open. It's an error if that happens, no matter how you close the datasets. This may have to go to SPSS tech support, but filling in some of these details will help either them, or us on the list. -Best wishes to you, Richard ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. OS is Windows XP. The data is on my pc’s
hard drive. I am closing by clicking on the red X in
the upper right-hand corner. And I am
left with just output and syntax – no data. Thanks Matt Matthew Pirritano, Ph.D. Research Analyst IV Medical Services Initiative (MSI) Orange County Health Care Agency (714) 568-5648 From: Richard Ristow

Thanks all, I did not know how much faster recode was
compared to ‘if’. That seems to have solved my speed issue. Thanks Matt Matthew Pirritano, Ph.D. Research Analyst IV Medical Services Initiative (MSI) Orange County Health Care Agency (714) 568-5648 From: Richard Ristow
