I'm not completely sure what you're asking for, but I'll jump in and try to get the ball rolling.
For starters, you could make a histogram for the quantitative variable with the qualitative variable as a panel variable. E.g.,
http://www.unige.ch/ses/sococ/cl/spss/graph/panelplots.html.
To get descriptive stats, you could use MEANS quantvar BY qualvar /STATISTICS={list of stats you want}; or you could split the file by the qualitative variable and use the DESCRIPTIVES command.
EDIT AFTER POSTING: You could also use the EXAMINE procedure to get descriptive stats & plots for the quantitative variable at each level of the qualitative variable.
