Dsiplay labels for selected variables

John F Hall
Does anyone know how to get display to print var labels for selected variables on the lines of

list /cases 10 .

rather than churning out the whole list?  I was rather hoping that syntax like:

disp lab / v24 v39 happy .

would work, but apparently not.

Hi John,

Is this what you're looking for?

display variables
/variables=D01_1onv to d01_5onv.

You can abbreviate it a bit btw.

Just had a look.  I don't think it will do what I want and it's far too complicated for the kind of beginning users at whom I'm aiming my tutorials.  Thanks anyway.

Dear John,

I'm sorry, I didn't realize the additional information would be a problem. I wasn't aware of any command that omits this but I had a quick look at the CSR (version 17) and found:

display labels
/variables =V20_1 to V20_7.

Thanks for pointing that out!

I have a very low-tech approach that works fine for me.  I highlight the variable names in VAriable view and then copy and paste to a spreadsheet.  Then I do the same thing for variable labels (four columns over).  I keep the vars in my original datasets in a different worksheet from ones that I have created.  I put them into categories and sort them so that I have all the various age category variables I have used together.
