Hi Everyone - I am looking for a script to empty my output window; I have one that I used for v14 but it no longer works in v19. I am not very knowledgeable with writing SPSS scripts but am well aware of their value! Thanks in advance. Aaron |
It would be easy enough to write a script for this, but why not just click on the x and close the window? SPSS will create a new one when more output is generated.

An alternative solution and much easier solution would be to use the built in command to OUTPUT CLOSE. See OUTPUT command reference for further details.

Didn't look like anyone mentioned this one, so mtc.
Raynald Levesque has just such a script located here: http://www.spsstools.net/Scripts/OutputDoc/EmptyDesignatedOutputWindow.txt I have added this as a custom toolbar button. I think it easier to hit this button in order to clear my output instead of having to select the output window and then close it. I have my spss set to not open the output when I run something, since I don't always want to see what it did, if it's just a bunch of data manipulation statements that I've already tested and used many times. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of jkpeck Sent: Monday, December 13, 2010 7:12 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: Empty Output Script It would be easy enough to write a script for this, but why not just click on the x and close the window? Thanks everyone for your feedback. The original intent for my inquiry was
because I had a macro that was designed to spit out a number of lists from a dataset to different subfolders. For each list, I wanted to empty the output after the list was saved to its subfolder. I was unable to get the Empty Output script mentioned below to work; I seem to think it's because I have SPSS v19. I think the Empty Output script by Levesque was written with an earlier version, maybe v14 or so, where only one Viewer window could be open at a time. The good news is that with the suggestion of using the OUTPUT commands (e.g. CLOSE, NEW), I was able to complete my task. However, I am now intrigued as to why Levesque's script will not work for me. I would like to add a button to my Viewer toolbar to empty output for me, if I can figure out how to edit the script to work for me. I have used the script in v19. I have a custom button there as well.
