Expected events from Logrank test

Bram
When performing the log rank test, I would like to know (for teaching
purposes) what the expected events are that SPSS uses for this test. I am
only able to obtain the observed events and the Test statistic (+df and p
value). If needed I can upload syntax and data to illustrate this using an
example.

See for instance here:
https://www.stata.com/features/overview/survival-example-session/ an example
of the output I am looking for (after the command “. sts test dose”).

SPSS: version 23 (release 23.0.0.2; 32 bit);
OS: Windows

Re: Expected events from Logrank test

I presume that you are using the KM command.  In general, for questions like this you need to post what procedure you are using, since many statistics are available in more than one command.

You can find the exact formula for the expected events in the Algorithms manual under KM.

FW: Expected events from Logrank test

Anthony Babinec
In reply to this post by Bram
Bram,
I think the short answer is that Stata and SPSS will produce the
same test result, but that Stata shows some intermediate results
that SPSS does not show. An internet search turns up some
excel implementations of the log rank test for 2 groups, but
the log rank test for >2 groups would take more work. You
might look at a good text such as Kleinbaum and Klein for
details, but my guess is that you would have to develop
a syntax program to see what you want to see in SPSS.
