The question. I have 19 installed on my laptop and desktop. On the laptop
the synax window shows, I don't know what it's called but it shows a bunch of symbols such as the file save symbol, two lines worth. I think it did that too on the desktop but I was able to right or left click on something and second line disappeared. Or maybe it was in either the tools or utilities dropdown. I don't recall. Anyway, the question is how do I get rid of the second line. Space is at a premium on a laptop and the second line is worthless. And, while I'm asking, is it possible to reduce the size of the symbols? Those suckers are nearly a half an inch high. Now, the really irksome functioning thing. Ever since spss enabled syntax checking, what you see when you type or paste is not what you typed or pasted until you mess around with the cursor (or insert a '.'). I think I have error checking turned completely off because I have everything unchecked in the Options -> syntax editor box. I'm sure a lot of people love the error checking but ... no. So, the question is there anything that can be done to make the editor display what is typed in 'real time', without delay? Have you tried right clicking between any of the items on either of the tool bars, and unchecking the "syntax tools" to get rid of the second line?

One way is: Before entering code, press [ENTER] and type ‘.’ On a new line then get back one line and start typing your code remembering the ‘.’ Be used as end of command.

You can remove toolbars from a window type
using View>Toolbars, and if you want to keep a few, you can use the
Custom item to select just the icons you want. The Custom item also
allows you to switch between large toolbar icons and small ones.
I don't understand your second point. I don't see any delay with typing even with error checking enabled. If you syntax file is very large, and the nearest command terminator is far away, you might notice a very short delay, but that would be rare. Jon, Thank you for your reply. I’ll check the View>Toolbars tonight. As to the second point, I understand you can’t reproduce what I claimed I saw with the information I listed. I’ll watch it more carefully and try to provide better, more precise information.
