I have what I expect is an easy question.  I have not used SPSS for many years.  I have version 17 at this point and am beginning to use it with the other packages I use as well.  I messed a bit with the output options settings but have not hit the setting that removed all of the scientific notation from being displayed in output and data screens.  I move data between programs a bit and this is something I have not been able to find the solution to intuitively here.  How do I set these to as something like rounded to 3 decimal places in SPSS by default?

We're a very broad-minded list, where everything dealing with SPSS,
most questions about statistics, and even a many tangentially related
items, are welcomed.

But, though I haven't polled the list membership, I think this should
be out of bounds for SPSSX-L.  I'll bet SAS-L won't like it much, either.

Hi Dale,
I am a new user too. Masters here will respond you better but I think in variable view in menu, if you hit the decimal 2 for decimal 3, it rounds it by default.

Under Edit-->Options, on the General tab, on the right side under Output, click a checkmark into "No scientific notation for small numbers in tables"

Re: Scientific Notation in Output

Heidi Green

Is there a similar option for large numbers?  I have a custom table where I specify dollar formats, and some of the large numbers always come out in exponential notation.

CTABLES

  /VLABELS VARIABLES=OUTCNTM OUTBALM BAL3060M BAL90PM BALCURM yrmonth DISPLAY=DEFAULT

  /TABLE yrmonth BY

          OUTCNTM      [SUM COMMA40.0] +

          OUTBALM       [SUM DOLLAR40.2] +

          BAL3060M     [SUM DOLLAR40.2] +

          BAL90PM       [SUM DOLLAR40.2] +

          BALCURM       [SUM DOLLAR40.2]

  /CATEGORIES VARIABLES=yrmonth ORDER=A KEY=VALUE EMPTY=EXCLUDE.

OUTCNTM

OUTBALM

BAL3060M

BAL90PM

BALCURM

Sum

609,763

$1.64E9

$61,873,752.67

$54,652,406.40

The OUTBALM field in the table above reads: $1.64E9, but what I would like to be displayed is: $1,636,232,200.81.

I tried the Options>output settings and the setting decimals to 3 places.  I was getting it in the output and in the datasheet as well as I recall.  It was when I was importing data sets.
