My God woman! - learn how to unsubscribe from a list!
When you write to a computer like you are talking to a person you WILL get a response of: "Unknown command - "????? etc". Try HELP." FOR EACH inane command you give it. Use the simple command language you were provided and send the proper request!!! Sorry, not in the mood for these kinds of emails in my mail box today. Listservs have been running for AT LEAST 10 years now and we still get "help me unsubscribe" requests on any list you belong to. My advice is don't subscribe to anything on the web if you can't read and understand instructions! -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Carolyn Halbert M.A., M.P.H. Sigh
When you subscribed to the list, you received a wellcome message (I'm copying it below) with instructions. As you can see, the message said "Please save this message for future reference [...]. If you ever need to leave the list, you will find the necessary instructions below". It is evident that you did NOT keep the message. Alright, just send a message to [hidden email] with the following words in the body of the message: SIGNOFF SPSSX-L Don't add anything else (your name, a title for the message...). It should work. If it doesn't, go the listserv web page and unsubscribe there: http://www.listserv.uga.edu/cgi-bin/wa?SUBED1=spssx-l&A=1 -- Regards, Dr. Marta García-Granero,PhD mailto:[hidden email] Statistician ******************************* Your subscription to the SPSSX-L list (SPSSX(r) Discussion) has been accepted. Please save this message for future reference, especially if this is the first time you are subscribing to an electronic mailing list. If you ever need to leave the list, you will find the necessary instructions below. Perhaps more importantly, saving a copy of this message (and of all future subscription notices from other mailing lists) in a special mail folder will give you instant access to the list of mailing lists that you are subscribed to. This may prove very useful the next time you go on vacation and need to leave the lists temporarily so as not to fill up your mailbox while you are away! You should also save the "welcome messages" from the list owners that you will occasionally receive after subscribing to a new list. To send a message to all the people currently subscribed to the list, just send mail to [hidden email]. This is called "sending mail to the list," because you send mail to a single address and LISTSERV makes copies for all the people who have subscribed. This address ([hidden email]) is also called the "list address." You must never send a command to that address, as it would be distributed to all the people who have subscribed. All commands must be sent to the "LISTSERV *server* address," [hidden email]. You may leave the list at any time by sending a "SIGNOFF SPSSX-L" command to [hidden email]. Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You can get a list of the available archive files by sending an "INDEX SPSSX-L" command to [hidden email]. You can then order these files with a "GET SPSSX-L LOGxxxx" command, or using LISTSERV's database search facilities. Send an "INFO DATABASE" command for more information on the latter. This list is available in digest form. If you wish to receive the digested version of the postings, just issue a SET SPSSX-L DIGEST command. More information on LISTSERV commands can be found in the LISTSERV reference card, which you can retrieve by sending an "INFO REFCARD" command to [hidden email]. |

Carolyn,
it seems clear enough to me. As I explained to you before, you should be very strict about ritual here. Write EXACTLY these words (and only these) in the body of your message: UNSUBSCRIBE SPSSX-L Carolyn Halbert M.A., M.P.H. Do not sign the message, nor add any courtesies. Just the sacred words. Be careful that the scriptural line does not include any other strange sign like < or >. The List Server does not like liturgical innovators. Yesterday I sent a reply to this message that was very rude - I would like
to apologize to the list and to Carolyn Hambert. I apologize for being very intolerant and taking my bad day out on you. |
