In SPSS 13 HOMALS was replaced with Multiple Corrspondence, which is one of several names for homogeneity analysis. Difference HOMALS and Multiple Corrspondence is only more analysis options and more output options.
Analyze Data Reduction Optimal Scaling choose "All variables multiple nominal" "Some variable(s) not multiple nominal" is Nonlinear PCA (CATPCA). A major update of HOMALS was included in v13 and the name changed to Multiple Correspondence. Since then, the "old" HOMALS is only available through syntax. The Multiple Correspondende analysis is the same as HOMALS analysis. The only difference is in input and output. For example, with MCA you do not need to specify the number of categories for each variable; you can specify a variable list for printing Descriptives (FREQ changed to DESCRIP); you can specify a variable list with the QUANT PRINT and PLOT keywords; inertia and contributions of the categories have been added to the Quantifications table.
