Incorrect left parenthesis screen display in Mac v20

Happy Holidays, All!

I am using SPSS v20 on a Mac platform. When I type the left parenthesis symbol  in a comment line, it displays on the screen as a single quote mark. Outside of comments, it displays correctly. When I copy or cut-and-paste into a text or Word document, it correctly displays. It prints correctly.  When I open it in the windows v20 environment, it also displays correctly. When I open old programs that used to display the left parenthesis correctly, it no longer does so. So it appears that it only looks wrong on the screen. Anyone else have this problem? It is annoying.

Kneejerk reaction (for when you get characters you don't expect) is encoding.  But, I'm not sold that what you are describing is an encoding issue (I would expect that the left-parens would always print as a single quote, rather than just in a comment line).  

But, if you have nothing else to go on (and JoNoH or DM don't chime in) you might want to fiddle with your encoding settings to see if this fixes the problem (as a workaround).

Caveat: I haven't heard of this problem and don't have ready access to a Mac.

The difference between characters displayed in comments and others is limited to the color and style (bold, italic, underline).  If you turn these settings off, do you still see the problem>

Second, are you using the default font in the SE?  If you have changed the font, perhaps a different one will solve the problem.
