Merging two files with table lookup

rana-7
Hi all,
i have a question about merging files. When i try to do the merging i got
this error : Error#5131.
I use an old version of SPSS in my university V12  . So i hope someone
can help me to fix this error.

P.S : I don't have all variables.

Many ragards.

Re: Merging two files with table lookup

Maguin, Eugene
Uhhh, Rana,

Like, what does Error 5131 say? More specifically, how about pasting the
exact text of the error message along with your syntax in your reply. Also,
what are we supposed to know from your postscript message?

Re: Merging two files with table lookup

Maguin, Eugene
Rana,

The error is the (in)famous duplicate key error, in your case, in table
file. So, your 'table' file has multiple records with the same value on the
'by' variable (or combination of values on the by variables). You have find
and fix the problem.

Can you work the problem from here or would you like more advice? If more
advice, then when you respond, we need to know more details. Practically,
you should just post your match files statement or, if you don't want to do
that, the minimum is to post the complete 'by' subcommand. Let me also add
that the only fix is do something to make the problem records unique. Maybe
delete some records; maybe add another by variable. It depends on your
specific situation.
