New SPSS Windows interface

Margaret MacDougall
Hello

At the institution where I work, we currently use IBM SPSS versions 22 and 23. I have been advised by a colleague that in a later version, the user interface for those using the Windows point-and-click interface has changed quite dramatically. I would welcome further information regarding this change, particularly in relation to the utility of the many online tutorial resources which rely on the 'old' interface.

Best wishes
Margaret

Re: New SPSS Windows interface

The default looks may be different than earlier versions (larger buttons,
blue vs grey), but the menus and their locations are exactly the same. This
is versions going back all the way to V15 that I can remember.

As of V22 and V23 though even the default looks are the same as far as I
remember. So I'm not sure what your colleague is talking about.

There were no significant changes in the basic UI for v. 24, and looking at the examples (case studies) for the new procedures in v. 25 Knowledge Center suggests there were no changes in the basic UI for that release either.

For example:

https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLVMB_25.0.0/statistics_casestudies_project_ddita/spss/tutorials/bayesian_onesample_analysis_bayes.html

That is a new procedure for v. 25, with a dialog UI that looks like many existing dialog UIs.

Re: New SPSS Windows interface

Maguin, Eugene

Jon,

I just looked at the link you provided and would you please clarify something. Who is meant by the “IBM SPSS statistics subscribers” referenced by the link and are those of us who get a copy of spss through some sort of institutional bulk purchase agreement the same people? Which would mean that what is described there on that link is what will be loaded on my computer next July when the current contract license expire?

Thanks, Gene Maguin

Re: New SPSS Windows interface

SPSS Subscription is a version that is provided on a monthly rental rather than a purchase and is updated online more frequently than the traditional offerings.  You can read about it here.

There are several other posts on it on the blog section of the IBM Predictive Analytics site.  It is different from the various academic offerings.

Okay; thanks, Jon. I will try to take some time out to explore what may be in store for the future of SPSS.
