I have just had the same problem reported to me and am starting to investigate this further - but - it seems that if the file is on a local hard drive ( i.e. in the machine running SPSS ) then it will open but if it is on a network drive there may be problems. As I said I'm looking further into this but it could be due to the type of network you are using. Best Wishes John S. I've noticed the same problem, but only on my home PC, not on my PC at work (both XP). And on my home PC I get the following warning when I re-open a file. >Warning # 67. Command name: get file >The document is already in use by another user or process. If you make >changes to the document they may overwrite changes made by others or your >changes may be overwritten by others. >File opened K:\PROJECT\SCHOLEN\DATA\NMOVG-2.sav I haven't noticed this at work. Here is a work-around - but it's a hassle. [Double Click twice]
1-Double click the *.sav file and an unlabelled file opens. 2-Double click again & only then does SPSS run the Get File .... that is necessary. Further investigation has revealed that the problem is common to XP ( both SP2 & 3 ) and isn't different whether opening network files or not. I have reported it to SPSS support and I'm waiting to see what their response is and whether it is a known problem. There is a Knowledgebase article which is a bit like the problem ( 80732 ) - we just have to wait and see. Best Wishes John S.
