I've allways wonder why SPSS doent gave the Z or p value in Costum Tables (or Crosstabs v19).

Everytime y need a Z test for a diference in proportions and I nedd to report the Z and p value. I do the calculations in Excel

Precisely what part of Bruce's reply of the 21st citing
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.soft-sys.stat.spss/browse_frm/thread/e8abd285cc0e4cd1/3fa8e889cde9c118?lnk=gst&q=chi-square+weight+#3fa8e889cde9c118
do you not understand?

In a nutshell: Create a single row of data for each cell and weight by the FREQ count.
Run a Crosstab and ask for Chi Square, or are you leaving something important out of your request?
Most would assume that you are attempting to determine whether the rows and columns of the table are statistically independent.  That is what the Chi Square will address.
When you post "for a second time"  it would be prudent to specify what part of what was previously answered was inadequate, inapplicable, or internetelepathically misconstrued.  Furthermore it would be best to reply to the previous thread rather than opening up a new one.

Please reply to the list and not to my personal email.
Those desiring my consulting or training services please feel free to email me.

Dear Ismail, I hope I do not sound too harsh but i just want to mention to you that this list is for people who have learned basics of statistical analysis, have made an effort to solve their problems using easily acceptable books and other resources and got stuck at a specific point and need a little help to keep going again on their own.
Your question indicates that you have done none of those steps. This may be the reason why you are getting no response.
With great respect,

Max,
Not to be rude, but....
He has already been given advice from both Bruce and myself.
OP needs to make some effort and apply the advice to his own situation.
If you are so inclined then why don't YOU do his job for him?

I saw your 1st posting and came to the conclusion that a not so funny game was being played.
Now you repeat the game. I ask you to end the game and give us the solution.
There are too many riddles:
you work for a commercial survey service, so your question for the most simple cross-tabulation strikes me as unbelievable.
You ask for a p, but a p for what? A p of a chi-sq, a p of an uncertainty coefficient, or what?
Some of your customers might ask you such questions, and you are paid to answer them.
But please stop molesting this list, where people try to help in real problem situations.

Re: P-value help---urgent need for help

Marta Garcia-Granero
Hi everybody:

I think that some people is being a bit oversuspicious. I I went to the web page (http://www.dennonoor.com) and clicked on a link that explained that Mr. Ismail Noor had left the company and was working overseas with an NGO on a project to prevent child abuse (that explained the data he sent to this list). I wrote him off line and gave him a solution (downloading the freeware application WinPepi, that works with tabulated data).

As a Spanish philosopher said: "we are the owners of our silences and the slaves of our words". Think twice before playing arsonist on the list, please. It is a contagious mood.

Anyway, maybe Mr Noor could have explained his situation better, something like: "I work for an NGO to prevent child abuse and I have been asked to analyze this table, I don't have the original data anymore...".

Mr Noor's problem has been solved to his satisfaction, as I can infer from his thanking message to me.

Best regards on this cloudy spring morning (at least on Spain).

Hi Marta.  You are quite right about arson being contagious, and I really like those words from the Spanish philosopher.  However, I still find it very strange that the example from Dave Nichols (link below), which I gave in my response to the first request, did not suffice--and also strange that it was not acknowledged in any way.

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.soft-sys.stat.spss/browse_frm/thread/e8abd285cc0e4cd1/3fa8e889cde9c118?lnk=gst&q=chi-square+weight+#3fa8e889cde9c118

Thank you Bruce. I would acknowledge your help and effort, but believe me I did not see it. Other wise I would not post my message again. I take your message as an apology and your apology is accepted. I have no hard feeling toward you or toward any of those who showed their racist attitudes.

Thank you again and have a nice weekend......................

Hi Marta.  You are quite right about arson being contagious, and I really
like those words from the Spanish philosopher.  However, I still find it
very strange that the example from Dave Nichols (link below), which I gave
in my response to the first request, did not suffice--and also strange that
it was not acknowledged in any way.

For the record, Ismail, I do not see anything in my posts in these two threads that requires an apology.  In my initial response, I offered the solution posted by Dave Nichols.  In my response to Marta's message, I said I found it strange that the Dave Nichols solution was not sufficient, and not acknowledged in any way.  No slight (racist or otherwise) is evident in either message, as far as I can see.  But you are free to disagree, of course.  ;-)

WTF???
After all this we still don't know what the original question/issue was aside from OP not paying attention to his own original thread.  He takes your note as an apology? WTF you have/had no reason to apologize.  He should perhaps apologize for his own epic lack of NG etiquette (but I'm not going to hold my breath!).
Please reply to the list and not to my personal email.

Re: P-value help---I wish and hope to put an end to this discussion

Ismail Noor
In reply to this post by Bruce Weaver
Dear Bruce,

For the past day or so I have been receiving lots of e-mail messages from list members, supportive in most, but some had shocking racist comments. Yet, many of the supportive messages were private and I was asked not to post them to the list, and I will not do that. I do want to put this discussion to rest and stop the exchange of messages. There is no need or use of finger pointing. Whoever wants an apology I do not mind offering one to her/him.

I certainly offer you my sincere  apology for all of the misunderstanding. I do wish you and all the list members, including the racist ones, a very nice and safe weekend.

with this message, I wish and hope to bring this unwonted  discussion to its end. Thank you all.....................
