PASW 17 and MAC OS 10.6.1 Snow Leopard

Luca Meyer-3
Hi,

I was told by the local (Italian) office that PASW 18 is not yet supported here and that I cannot yet have the authorization code for PASW 18 of which I have downloaded the online 30-day demo.

Now, I have seen that MAC Snow Leopard 10.6.1 is not compatible with PASW 17 (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258) and my temporary PASW 18 is going to expire in 3 days, what can I do to keep working with PASW? It is out of question to downgrade my Mac operating system as I have applications now running quite faster on the new OS...

Thanks,
Luca

Re: PASW 17 and MAC OS 10.6.1 Snow Leopard SPSS ALWAYS gives a LOUSY deal to Europe.
Latest versions may only be avaialble months or even a year after US
Lack of 18 is a major headache for Windows as well as MAC

They are still charging Europe full price for out of date software
Wish EU would take on this issue – like microsoft

Challenge to SPSS employees on list:
Explain this DREADFUL policy

If OPPORTINUTIY AORSE I WOULD GET MY UNIVERSITY TO SHIFT FORM SPSS

We could get you a job doing the captions on BBC News!

Joking apart, isn't it about time (Social Science, remember them?) SPSS users fought back?  We're not all into profits, some of us are into service and teaching.  Some of us even gave of our time to spread the word about SPSS and to supply design input, tutorials, training, you name it, we did it.  We didn't walk away with multi-million deals: we're still here and we're still doing what we always did, usually for free (or at least within our contracted hours).

It's Wake Up time, otherwise it will soon be too late.  Any ideas for a new thread title?

I should rettify my posting as I have got today confirmation from SPSS Italia that I should get PASW 18 authorization code within the next few days, so I should be able to keep working with it.

I take it that the captions on BBC News also have a lot of misspellings—that’s a function of real-time captioning—really hard to type as fast as people talk ;-)

Re: PASW 17 and MAC OS 10.6.1 Snow Leopard

IIRC, as long as I worked at SPSS, local offices set distribution dates, sometimes contingent upon translation. SPSS now releases all languages simultaneously but I don’t know if release policy has changed for local offices.

I’d say all of the SPSS employees who contribute to this list have nothing to do with local office decisions—most of them work out of Chicago and are not in marketing and sales. However, without this group of SPSS employees who make valuable contributions to this list, there would be a lot fewer releases featuring enhancements and additions that customers keep asking for ;-)

Re: PASW 17 and MAC OS 10.6.1 Snow Leopard

Kornbrot, Diana
Re: PASW 17 and MAC OS 10.6.1 Snow Leopard Thanks for that useful information.
So users in each country have to separately pressure their local office.
Apparently, Italy is/will be ahead of UK as they have promised Luca ‘within a few days’ - whatever that means
I surely appreciate all the SPSS folk input – wherever they are.
Indeed ViAnn isbeing helpful ind directing us to local rather than central offices.
Anyone form SPSS, UK on the list wo can help?
Best

Diana
