Panel data (longitudinal data) vs. cross-sectional data

mils
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to put together a brief document describing the advantages and disadvantages of using panel data versus using cross-sectional data.

I've come across different papers:

http://www.wise.xmu.edu.cn/Master/Download/UploadFiles%5C200710122028147055475115776.pdf

http://eprints.ncrm.ac.uk/415/1/MethodsReviewPaperNCRM-007.pdf

But they seem rather complicated to understand since I don't have a mathematical/statistical background.

I would really appreciate if anyone could point out any paper/link or tell me how to best tackle this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

Probably no one has had to statistically demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of using panel data versus cross-sectional data?

I completely understand this is an SPSS forum, but I was hopping that someone has came across this issue.

Does anyone knows a good Statistics forum where I could post my question?

Again, thanks for your help!!!

From the survey perspective I can recommend Chapter 1 of "Methodology of Longitudinal Surveys", Edited by Peter Lynn, 2009, Wiley

Also, Chapter 6 in "Statistical Design for Research", Kish, 2004, Wiley.
