Propensity Score Matching and Analysis

DKUKEC
Greetings Dear Listers,

Can someone recommend a guide or article that describes how to prepare data and use propensity score matching to compare outcomes between an program and control group?  I would like to use SPSS to assemble the data and R to perform the propensity score matching analysis.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I am wondering if there was an "idiot's guide" out there; which would serve me very well!!

Cheers,
Damir

I don't know the answer to your question although I'm interested in it myself.  I recently ordered the two books below to help me with this very issue but can't tell you yet how useful they are.  You might want to browse them on Amazon to see what you think.

Hello Martha.  I'm not familiar with either of those, so look forward to your (eventual) comments on them.  ;-)

Maguin, Eugene
In reply to this post by DKUKEC
Damir,

Have you googled 'propensity score' or 'propensity score matching' and related variations? Lisa Kaltenbach has a pdf that can be looked at. LaVolta posted that link to John Painter's spss text but back up and look at the ~painter page because there are several page links there. I think you might also profitably look at the Stata links that come up because Stata has a propensity scoring procedure in the program. Look also for Guo's or Mark Fraser's websites because of their recent book. I think Rosenbaum, along with Rubin, was one of the original developers of the theory. An access problem is that a lot of the writing about propensity scoring is in books and journal articles and you may not have direct access to a research library.
