Subject: [SPSSX-L] Saving a SPSS dataset into multiple datasets at once
based on a filter or a variable

Hi,

I need to divide a large dataset into numerous segments based on a
filter or variable and fit models separately. At present I make multiple
copies of the original dataset and use "select cases" in the "edit" menu
to delete unwanted cases. My question is that if SPSS has a mechanism to
export or split the file and save into multiple segments based on the
filter.

Thank you,

Nagu

Re: Saving a SPSS dataset into multiple datasets at once based on a filter or a variable

Cleland, Patricia (EDU)
There is a more automated method on Raynald's website which I have used
in the past.  The purpose of his syntax is to create 'n' different files
where each file is based on a different value of a variable. For
example, if your file contained data from 4 different sites (A, B, C,
and D), it would produce a separate file for each site.  It has the
advantage that you don't need to know the number of possible values of
'n' to use it.

It can be found at #21 at
http://www.spsstools.net/SampleSyntax.htm#WorkingWithManyFiles.
