Rescaling Syntax

Colin Valdiserri
Hello Everyone,

I have misplaced my syntax that I used to use for rescaling variables and was wondering if anyone could help me out.

I have a bunch of variables on a 1-5 scale and need to rescale them to 0-10. If anyone has the syntax for this, I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Colin

= [(X_i - X_min) / (X_max - X_min)] * (X_max_new - X_min_new) + X_min_new

= [(X_i - 1) / (5 - 1)] * (10 - 0) + 0

= [(X_i - 1) / 4] * 10

COMPUTE X_i_new = ((X_i - 1) / 4) * 10
EXECUTE.

The simplest thing to do is take Y = 2.5*(X-1) where X is the original value (1-5) and Y becomes 0 when x is 1, 2.5 when x = 2, 5 when x = 3, 7.5 when x = 4 and 1- when x = 5.
