Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone had ever tried running SPSS on a netbook? My department has just purchased an Asus EEE to be used for presentations/lectures etc. I am wondering if it is worth trying to install SPSS on there to see if I can use it for my workshops and lectures, which will save me having to bring in my own laptop to work each time I need it. It is model 1005P which has an Intel Atom N450 processor (512K cache, 1.66GHz) and 1GB RAM, and will be running Windows 7 Starter. Initially I wouldn't be running very intensive analyses on it, rather introductory topics like compute, recode, IF, split file, merging, creating/editing pivot tables, creating/editing graphs. Later in the year I would be starting on statistical topics like crosstabs, t-tests, 2-way RM ANOVAs, small linear/logistic regressions. All will be on small data files. Comments on the web are mixed. Some people appear to be running basic SPSS things fairly successfully, though a bit slower of course than on their desktops. I am most concerned about the graphics-related tasks - eg, opening up a graph editor, output screen refreshing with new output. Does anyone have any experience to add? Thanks, Kylie. ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. My department got a netbook last spring and I was able to use it to demonstrate factor analysis, logistic regression, and .....something else with data sets of <200 cases.
No problems with SPSS with the modestly sized data sets. For me the biggest issue was that the room layout wasn't very good for running a demo. Kylie-
My guess is that running the syntax would be okay, but that rendering the output would crush the netbook. If you have access to v15, that's what I like for laptop/netbook usage. I know it's outdated software and there are bugs, etc etc. However, the difference in performance makes v15 the latest *usable* version -- in my humble opinion. -Eric -----Original Message----- From: Kylie Lange [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Thursday, July 01, 2010 8:53 PM Subject: SPSS 17 on netbook? Thanks to everyone who replied with their thoughts and experiences. It
sounds like it is worth testing it out, so I'll hopefully be able to do that this week and report back on how it goes. Thanks, Kylie. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Kylie Lange Sent: Friday, 2 July 2010 11:23 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: SPSS 17 on netbook?
