SPSS 19 makes two copies of tables when copying to Word

John F Hall

Just loaded SPSS 19 after labyrinthine procedure and 4-hour download time (Tried 18, but it would let me)

I was editing a table in the viewer before copying it to a Word doc and two copies appeared.  I can’t highlight the second one and if I delete the first one they both disappear.  This used to happen sometimes in 18.  Any ideas as to what is going on and how to solve the problem.

Re: SPSS 19 makes two copies of tables when copying to Word

Tesiny, Ed

I had the same problem on Friday using SPSS 18, it seemed that if a table couldn’t fit on the page it pasted two of them and yes if you wanted to delete one they both were deleted.  So, I inserted a page break and that SEEMED to work.  Have a lot more to do today, so we’ll see.

Thanks for this.  I managed to sort it out, but can't remember quite how.  The other nuisance is not being able to use CTRL+C to copy from the viewer.  I had to do Right click and copy instead.  Why don't software designers see how users operate?  Our time is much more important.

Colours in 19 seem a bit pale, but that may be because of Windows 7 rather than XP on my new machine.  Windows and SPSS still have a predilection for blue which doesn't exactly spread the ink consumption very economically when printing screendumps in tutorials.  Some students are still on 11, 15 etc, but most of my stuff works with all previous versions, including files from the 1970s: just the output looks different.

Re: SPSS 19 makes two copies of tables when copying to Word

Maguin, Eugene
John, I've noticed the Ctrl-C problem on 18 also. However, it is intermittent for me and it seems to me that it sometimes depends on how the output block is selected. One way is to click on the desired material in the right-hand pane, e.g., frequencies. The other way is to click on the icon in the left-hand pane. Perhaps spss will deny this but i notice that when one does not work, the other one will. That said, this is simply another thing that doesn't work like it used to. It also seems to me that most of this, uh, stuff came in with the conversion to Java.
