SPSS Statistics Trial Version 19 - Installation failed - Please help!

hey guys,

i have a new mac book pro. today i downloaded the trial version of spss statistics 19 and the installation failed. every time i want to open the (with the install manager installed) program, it says that "i can't open this program because it's damaged or incomplete."

so i was looking for a solution on the internet and found a fix pack (patch) from IBM.

unfortunately another problem occured although i just ran the installation program normally.




what am i doing wrong? i'd be very happy if one of you could help me solve this problem.

You are *NOT* going to be able to PATCH an UNINSTALLED application.  Perhaps download the program again and retry the install.  Should be about 500MB (verify that this is the case).  Apparently your initial download went FUBAR.

Have you confirmed that the install directory is pointing to the correct location?

i.e. /Applications/IBM/SPSS/Statistics/19

I do not work on Apples (and haven't for many years), but I remember a few years back some other people were having problems with patches and whatnot - it was related to residual keys being left in the registry (but registry keys are a Windows facet).  Can anyone point to/suggest a similar issue with Apples OS?

Either way, I would follow what David suggested: try to download it again.  If it doesn't work, try to uninstall any SPSS applications (other trials perhaps?) to insure a clean install.  If this fails again the next step would be to see if it is user error or computer error... ie go to another computer that has been untouched by SPSS (if you can) and attempt the same download/install procedure.  If it occurs again it is probably user error, if it succeeds it it can still be user error, but if it gets this far it's probably related to your computer.

Post back with details after you've tried a few of these suggestions and I am sure the listers can help more.

Now i downloaded the "IBM SPSS Statistics Desktop Installers Trial V19.0 Multiplatform English eAssembly". It works perfectly!
