SPSS Version 19 Question

Sonia Brandon
Hi Group -

Has anyone run into any issues with SPSS Version 19?  My office has become extraordinarily fond of version 15 after using 16-18; and now that we are faced with version 19, we want to know if anyone has run across any bugs.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Re: SPSS Version 19 Question

Lemon, John S.

Sonia et al.

I have now been using 19 for some months and so far haven’t found any really serious problems; however, the experience of using 19 after 15 will be quite different and output files aren’t compatible. I find 19 a much cleaner interface and having been  a beta tester for a number of versions and a user of SPSS since 1975 I think this is the best version for a long time. I found it to be much more robust and reliable than previous versions and much faster than 18.

My suggestion is move to 19 and enjoy the new features especially the much improved syntax editor.

Best Wishes

Re: SPSS Version 19 Question

Hector Maletta

As a long time SPSS user and also a beta tester, I agree with John. V.19 is excellent, stable, and has solved a number of bugs found in 17 or 18. Nothing is absolutely perfect, but this one is good.

Re: SPSS Version 19 Question

In reply to this post by Sonia Brandon
We have not been able to get version 19 to work as intended, even if the glitch is a minor one: the help files can't be reached. As far as I know, the problem lies in our network license, it is not the basic routines in the software. But in case your system is based on some kind of network license, you should probably test reaching the help files before a decision for an upgrade is made. In our case, we have decided to stay with ver 18 until the problem is solved.

I haven't noticed it before, but you are totally right. I can't access
the help files and we also have a network license. But I almost never
use the help files... That's why I haven't noticed it before.

Apart from this I'm totally happy with V19, it's the best version since
 V16.

I just installed it yesterday.  Mostly liking the improvements over V.18, and have no problem accessing the help on this mac version.  However, still not fixed is the inability to use the <delete> key to get rid of unwanted output.  I have to select the output and delete from the <edit> menu.

regards,
Ian

deleting in the Viewer [was Re: SPSS Version 19 Question]

Alex Reutter

I find (at least on the PC version), that while I need to use the mouse to select individual pieces of output, I can delete them using the delete key; I don't need to go to the Edit menu.

Re: deleting in the Viewer [was Re: SPSS Version 19 Question]

ViAnn Beadle

Ian’s problem might be specific to the Mac? I routinely delete big chunks of output via the navigation tree.  I click on the top node of a branch to delete the node and extend selections across nodes with shift select.
