Hi,
I have an aluminum 13-inch MacBook. I tried to install SPSS 16.0 on it the other day but i did not complete it due to lack of good internet connection. When i attempted to re-install the program at a later time i got the following message: "Install has detected the presence of SPSS 16.0 for Mac. Please uninstall the existing version before installing this version of the product." I have searched my mac repeatedly since then, but i have not been able to detect any SPSS related material/programs. How do i uninstall something that does not seem to exist? If the software does "exist" somewhere, how do i uninstall it?? Do you have any suggestions as to what i should try next?? Thanks in advance! Your best bet is to talk to SPSS Support about any install issues. In the
meantime, you may just need to run the authorization step and not try to reinstall. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Effie Sent: Wednesday, May 06, 2009 7:35 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: SPSS install on Mac Hi, I have an aluminum 13-inch MacBook. Hello, all. I just had a scary thing happen: I edited the syntax file and when I tried to save it, I got an error message: "sharing violation" or something like that and the file saved as blank. I mean completely blank syntax file - everything disappeared. Is there any way to retrieve the file? Fortunately I ran the analyses so I should be able to recover at least some syntax from the journal. Has that happened to anyone on the list?

Hi Effie,
Here is a resolution from the Knowledgebase at http://support.spss.com that addresses the problem. If the steps there do not resolve the problem, then I would suggest opening a case with support at that web site. David Matheson SPSS Statistical Support ***************** Resolution number: 74554 Created on: Dec 5 2007 Last Reviewed on: Mar 19 2009 Problem Subject: Trying to install SPSS 16/17 for the Mac yields an error message that there is already a previous installation of SPSS and will not allow the installation process to continue. Problem Description: I am trying to re-install SPSS 16/17 for the Macintosh. I am unable to do so because during the installation I am met with an error message telling me that there is already a previous flavor of SPSS on this machine and that it must be removed before a new install can take place. What is the reason for this message and how can I resolve this so that I can install SPSS 16 for the Macintosh? Resolution Subject: Completely remove the previous installation of SPSS from the affected Macintosh computer Resolution Description: The reason this is happening is that the previous installation of SPSS 16 for the Macintosh was not uninstalled correctly. Open the folder corresponding to the version of SPSS that was trashed or migrated. Open the "_uninstall" folder. (There is more than one 'uninstaller' file in the folder, so be sure the customer can see the extensions of their files. If they cannot, see 'Mac - View file extension when not displayed'.)
