Hello,
I have always used SPSS on PCs, but I am planning to buy a Mac laptop and want to use the software on this machine. Is there anything I should know about SPSS on Macs before I buy one? For instance, does it work, or are there any glitches, etc? Since April 2009 I use PASW Statistics on Mac and so far I have found just a couple of issues:
(1) Difficulty to connect to external data sources - e.g. ODBC connectivity - as no Data Access Pack is available (2) Reading SAS files might be complex as I am told that the Mac version does not include a tool to uncompress SAS files (but them I just discovered that there isn't a recent SAS version for Mac users...) From time to time I have also encountered some issues with reading properly non-Unicode text - some little additional recoding needed. v18 is probably the first version since...I can't remember
when...that I have not immediately found bugs in. I haven't used it extensively in terms of procedures, but what I have run has worked well. The color coded syntax and error report pane in syntax windows is nice, although I'm finding the contextual menu in syntax more obtrusive than helpful. Those features aren't Mac-specific, however.
