Still Having V16 Viewer Problems

I installed the V16.01 patch and it seems to have alleviated some of the
problems I was having with the viewer.  For example, I can now copy and
paste small tables from the viewer to Excel.  When I do it repeatedly it
seems to now release memory between copies so the system does not blow up so
easily.



But it only works when the tables are relatively small.  I have a file with
26 variables and four groups (var=RST).  I ran Oneway with the file split by
RST and producing descriptive and an LSD posthoc set of comparisons.



The output tables are long, but not at that all unusual.  But I am unable to
export from the SPSS output to Excel.  When I try to "Export" the system
takes a long time and ends up giving me a memory error and an empty xls
file.  When I try to copy and paste, the system also freezes and crashes.
When I check the Window's Task Manager, it tells me that either method is
taking over 800 MB of memory and 50% of my CPU.



What do people do to see their results from larger analyses in V16.01?  Do
you just break up the analysis into smaller parts?  Do you redirect the
output to an XML file?   Or am I the only one still having this problem?
The program isn't very much use to me if I can't get the results out of the
viewer.



I can't go to SPSS tech support because we did not purchase the TS package.
Even though this problem has existed since we purchased the new version back
in October, they have been very reluctant to help.

This is just a thought, but I wonder if there might be a problem with
different versions of Java on machines having this problem. I don't see
these problems and I have two versions of the JRE, 1.6 (which is the latest
version and was installed by QuickTime) and an older version installed by
SPSS. My CLASSPATH environment variable points to the QT. I am running Vista
and Office 2007. Both are up to date.

I can print, copy large tables and paste them in Excel, etc.

Another thing to look for. Are these machines connected to the internet? I
wonder if SPSS attempts to validate XML via the schema stored at SPSS.COM?

            We installed SPSS 16 and the Spss 16.1 patch on several
machines last week and we have had similar problems to the ones you've
identified.  

 

            1) Even with the "Notification: Raise Viewer Window" option
checked, the output window does not pop-up when a run is completed;

 

            2) When we raise the output window, we get a message that
the output is "Processing".  Unfortunately, the output table never
materializes.  We have to click on the right-hand side of the output
window to get the table to appear and sometimes the entire table does
not load;

 

            3) I've had the problem of trying to export relatively small
output files to excel and get an error that there is not enough memory
and/or get an empty output.xls file.  

 

I was finally able to get through to tech support and at least noted
that we are having these problems.

General Situation
 A trademark (including Service Mark) is a sign that identifies and distinguishes the source of the goods or services of one party from those of others. In market economy, trademarks play a significant role in guiding market business, boosting national economy and protecting consumers’ rights and interests.

The owner of a trademark shall apply to the Trademark Office for registration if he wants the trademark used in business to be fully protected by law. Once a trademark is approved and registered, the trademark registrant is entitled to the exclusive rights to use the trademark, which includes: 1. Right to use the trademark; 2. Exclusive right; 3. Basic requirements for filing a trade mark application in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau

Charges of applying for trademark registration in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau
Generally, it takes three stages for a application mature to registration: Stage 1, Application; Stage 2, Examination and Publication; Stage 3, Acceptance and Registration. Because there is just 10 years for the newly registered mark, in order to maintain the protection of the registered mark, the registration should be renewed every 10 years.
About trademark search:
A trade mark registration is infringed by unauthorized use of the same or similar trademark, either on the goods covered by the registration or on similar goods if there is likely to be confusion. Moreover, a registered trade mark which has become well known in China will be infringed by the use of the same or similar mark on totally dissimilar goods where the later use, being without due case, takes unfair advantages of or is detrimental to the distinctive character or the repute of the well known registered trademark. Therefore, once a trade mark has been chosen, it is very important to conduct clearance searches to see if the trade mark is free for use. We can readily conduct searches of the Trade Marks Register.

Now we can offer two main types of searches:
 1.  We can conduct a basic search covering identical and very similar marks found on the Chinese Trade Marks Register for free. This includes Chinese Trademark applications and registrations, as well as international application /registration designating China.
2.  Alternatively, we can conduct a full clearance search which is a much more extensive search covering identical and similar marks on the Chinese Register, plus limited searches for potentially conflicting unregistered rights. I can't copy large tables, either... Only the smaller ones, unfortunately. I
also got the error there's not enough memory. I don't export the tables, I
just want to copy and paste them in Excel.

I use windows XP, the 16.0.1 patch is installed, I haven't checked which
Java-version is installed.

SPSS users,

There are two hotfixes now available at http://support.spss.com/ProductsExt/SPSS/Patches/index.html

The first hotfix improves a problem whereby performance is affected while generating large tables in the output viewer

The second hotfix alleviates a problem in SPSS 16.0.1 exporting large pivot tables to external applications such as Excel. In some cases, the export would create empty files.

I can't copy large tables, either... Only the smaller ones, unfortunately. I
also got the error there's not enough memory. I don't export the tables, I
just want to copy and paste them in Excel.

I use windows XP, the 16.0.1 patch is installed, I haven't checked which
Java-version is installed.
