I am just wondering what sort of integration do they offer. I would be curious to know what online survey softwares provide both SPSS data format and meta-data - such a value and variable labels, etc.

I dowloaded a spss file from surveyMonkey this morning, just before reading the news from John Hall. SM gives you an spss file w/o any labels. SM creates the var names sequentially and gives you the choice of value labels 1-n or 'real' values. It also provides with a PDF of your survey that you can use to create your own var lab.

Thanks Vladimir,
So what you are basically saying is that one needs to write his/her own syntax to assign both value and variable labels, right? Luca Il giorno 02/feb/2011, alle ore 19.40, Vladimir Lopez-Prado [via SPSSX Discussion] ha scritto:

I just downloaded ‘my’ survey
from SM. Here’s what I found: Good news: I have both value and var
labels for each variable. The value labels are the options in the questions and
the var labels are the questions themselves. Bad news: Var names as supplied are
not totally helpful. Here are the var names for the 1st two
questions in my survey: q0001 q0002_0001 q0002_0002 q0002_0003 q0002_0004 q0002_0005 q0002_0006 q0002_0007 q0002_0008 q0002_0009 q0002_0010 However, when I looked at the survey
itself, I could see that the questions numbers, such as Q1 and Q2 now appeared
on the survey so it’s not impossible to find your way around. Overall, in my opinion, this is a vast
improvement on exporting to excel, editing the field names so that they work as
SPSS var names, reading in and merging a bunch of excel files (if you have more
fields than can be accommodated in a single excel sheet) and adding value and
var labels for every variable. Pat From:

I have been using Qualtrics for online surveys for quite some time. One of the options is to receive output in SPSS. Labels are fully supplied in the .sav

Kia ora, I've been setting Limesurvey up for our research centre. Very happy with it: exports excel, SPSS and R (labelled and nominal/scale/etc attributes set), secure, does randomisation, piping, other bells and whistles. It's also open source...i.e. FREE! You do need a server to host it on though, but installation was very straightforward.
Thanks, Brendan |

Luca SNAP from www.snapsurveys.com has provided an SPSS .sav file for years, incorporating question numbers from the survey, Variable and Value labels etc. You can open the file in SPSS and start working.
SNAP also produces paper as well as online surveys. Best Wishes John S. Lemon DIT ( Directorate of Information Technology ) -

I second this support for Limesurvey.
I've used it in three projects and in courses. The interface at first looks a bit cheap, but working with it is quite straightforward. Exporting the data is very easy. Just remember to export the data before de-activating the questionnaire. Copying and reusing other question types is easy. On the website, many less straightforward question types (not implemented by default) are available for import. On Youtube some video tutorials circulate, watch them to get an impression Maurice On Wed, Feb 2, 2011 at 21:48, BJ <[hidden email]> wrote: > Kia ora, I've been setting Limesurvey up for our research centre. Interesting replies on this subject. I posted the original announcement, forwarded from Terry Blom, my partner-in-crime: he does web design and engineering, I do content. Keeps a couple of retired ex-pats busy in the wilds of rural Normandy. We’ve already got StatCounter on the home page of our website, but we're looking to add something to our website, as users exit, to get (optional) feedback on the SPSS tutorials and other content. Terry's been exploring a few possibilities, but we'd be grateful for any comments and/or suggestions from listers. John Hall |

Mr. Meyer,
I wanted to make you aware that IBM SPSS does offer an online survey tool as well The IBM SPSS Data Collection family, integrates with IBM SPSS Statistics providing both SPSS data format and meta-data. If you would like to find out more information you can click on the link below, or let me know if there is anything I might be able to help with. http://www-01.ibm.com/software/analytics/spss/products/data-collection/ Thanks, Matt Madden Market Manager- SPSS Product Marketing [hidden email]

My organization uses the SPSS Dimensions software to deploy surveys and I love it! We used to use e-Listen (a Scantron product) which I believe is similar to Survey Monkey. It was okay, but the conversion to .sav was not very smooth. The Dimensions line of products allows the user through their scripting tool MrStudio to program very complex surveys and the conversion to .sav files is seamless. Also, the support team for the Dimensions line of products ROCKS!

Molly,
Great to hear you are happy with the Data Collection product (formerly called SPSS Dimensions). It is always good to hear from satisfied customers. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Thanks, Matt [hidden email]
