Syntax For Defining Multiple Response Sets

Colin Valdiserri

Hello All,

I have to define and run frequencies on a lot of multiple response data in PASW 18 and am wondering if I have to use “point and click” or if there is a syntax that I can use instead. I would usually select the “paste” option instead of run and get the syntax, but don’t see that as an option.

If there is a syntax, I would be very grateful!

Thank you,

Colin

Re: Syntax For Defining Multiple Response Sets

There are two kinds of multiple response sets and two different interfaces.  The one that doesn't have a close button is the old one designed for user with the old MULT RESPONSE procedure.  In that context, the set definition syntax is actually part of the MULT RESPONSE procedure syntax, and it will be generated if you paste from the MULT RESPONSE frequencies or table dialog.  These definitions do not persist in the data file, but you can, of course, save the syntax.

However, the newer type - not so new since it was introduced in SPSS 11.5 - generates syntax for the MRSETS command (Analyze > Custom Tables > Multiple Response Sets).  It is intended for use with Custom Tables and the Chart Builder.  Those definitions persist with the dataset so do not need to be repeated, but you can, of course, save the syntax for application to other datasets as appropriate.
