Syntax Problem

Thew, Barbara-2

I wonder if anyone could help please.     Trying to import from another file I have problems because the string is too long  (more than 250 characters) and I get an error message to that effect.   I can alter the syntax within Word and then export it back into SPSS, but I wondered if there was a more simple way to do this.

Many thanks

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

Why do you want to import a string that is of more than 250 chararcters?

If you are thinking of doing and analysis for open-ended questions, you might want to consider using

SPSS Text Analysis for Surveys

Please note that this suggestion is done from my view without the knowledge of what are you trying to achieve in your research.

If you are just purely wanting to bring this data into SPSS, perhaps you can provide more hint of your syntax error by posting the syntax that you have at the moment together with the error that was committed.

Cheers
Dorraj

Barbara,

How are you trying to import? What command? Exact text, please. What is the
error message? Likewise, exact text.
I've imported delimited text files with character strings 3000 to 4000
characters long.
