T-Test

Ruben Reyes
I am having difficulty computing t-tests for multiple variables.  For
example:  Are there significant differences between EOG test scores in
reading and mathematics (i.e,. 6th grade reading, 6th grade math, 7th
grade reading, 7th grade math, 8th grade reading, and 8th grade math) of
mobile and non-mobile students based on student ethnicity.  The print
out I am receiving only compares groups (i.e., mobility and gender) as
opposed to mobile vs. non-mobile and male vs. female.  I would
appreciate any advice you could give me to resolve this issue.

Beadle, ViAnn
You need to supply either the syntax you ran or the steps you took in the T-test dialog to generate your output.

Re: T-Test

Oliver, Richard
This may be an issue of selecting the wrong type of t test or having the wrong type of data structure. A paired samples t tests compares two  variables (columns), such as a variable with pre-test scores and a variable with post-test scores. An independent samples t test compares two-subgroups of a single variable, based on the values of a separate grouping variable, such as income difference between males and females, with income recorded in one variable and gender recorded in another variable.

Maybe you simply selected the wrong type of t test. Alternatively, maybe you need to restructure your data for the appropriate t test.

You need factorial ANOVA, analysis of variance
Multiple t-tests are misleading
1 in 20 will appear to show effects due to chance
they also do not answer your key questions

ANOVA is required training for BPS recognized psychologists

You may try One-way ANOVA from Compare means and Post Hoc with Duncan or LSD
checked where you can consider mobility/ gender as the group variable.
