TdRunSyntax don't work in SPSS 16

Auberth Hurtado
Hi,

I work the syntax of SPSS in textpad, but since I installed version 16, does
not run, someone knows how to make it work the TdRunSyntax in version 16?

Thanks.

Do you mean that SPSS doesn't launch from Textpad? What command-line
argument does it use to launch SPSS? The executable's name has changed to
spss.exe.

Hi,

I mean, run the syntax from Texpad.
I open a file in SPSS v16 and the syntax and run something. I get an error:
"Run-time error'429 'ActiveX component can't create object".

Thanks

Sounds like textpad is driving SPSS through OLE automation. You'll have to
talk to whoever wrote the API for textpad.

I think I am missing something.
What is the advantage to using textpad instead of an SPSS syntax file?

Textpad has better editting functions than the SPSS editor. I
use UltraEdit because you can edit in columns as well as rows.
Its brilliant.

Kind regards

Here you are some reasons why is sometime better use textpads than SPSS
syntax window:
1. you can prepare your syntax on comp regardless SPSS is installed or not
2. textpad doesn't catch text format (it could be usefull when you write
labels and copy them from Word questionnaire which is put into tables)

Re: TdRunSyntax don't work in SPSS 16

Daniel Robertson
In reply to this post by Melissa Ives
Some SPSS users prefer to code syntax using text editors such as Textpad
because they offers features that the SPSS syntax window does not, such
as syntax highlighting, outlining, and sophisticated search and replace.
Someone at one point wrote a little program called tdRunSyntax.exe to
take the syntax from Textpad and submit it to SPSS, which I believe
worked by interfacing with runsyntx.exe -- see
<http://www.spsstools.net/FAQ.htm#AlternativeEditor?>. I think this is
what the OP was talking about.

Without knowing anything about how tdRunSyntax.exe worked, my guess is
that given the rewrite in Java, it won't work with v.16 -- one reason
being that runsyntx.exe does not appear in the v.16 directory.
