Hi,
In V25 I cannot turn off the Syntax Editor nav pane - whether I deselect it in the ribbon or under global options. I can turn it off by clicking View and then unchecking Show Navigator Pane.
But if I then close the syntax file and reopen it, the navigator pane is back. Ditto if I open another syntax file, or start a new one. I gather that is what you are experiencing too, Bob, and you are asking how to turn it off permanently (for all syntax files)? Bob, Bruce,
(I'm assuming) You know, in 24 and previous versions a number of useful things could be done from Edit --> Options --> syntax editor tab (among others). Does your question and statement mean that Edit --> Options --> all tabs is now GONE? Just curious but oh ... I hope not. In spss 25,
Edit > Options > syntax editor has a Panes section with a checkbox for Display the navigation pane. I unchecked that and clicked apply and okay and the navigation pane part of the syntax editor went away. I closed the SPSS session and started a new one and this setting persists. I am running on Windows 10. Thanks to all for responding... my settings did not persist, so that was why I was asking. The same was true for font choices. I do not have an issue with dialogs or the options themselves appearing, just that the deselection did not stick. I will keep playing, more of an annoyance. Must be a Halloween spell. Thanks!

The SE settings are stored in the Windows Registry under the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\com\ibm\/S/P/S/S\/Statistics\25.0\ui\options\syntax_editor These are updated when Statistics exits, assuming a normal exit, for persistence in subsequent sessions. That's the behavior I see in V25. So I wonder whether there is a permissions problem. Try starting Statistics using Run As Administrator (I'm assuming Windows), and see if the settings persist. That shouldn't be necessary, but Windows keeps getting more and more locked down. Thanks to all on this issue. Jon… “Run As Admin” produced the desired nav pane behavior. I didn’t have to go into the registry. Subsequent launches of SPSS exhibited my correct settings, too. Interestingly this approach has not yet worked for me (i.e., when Running
as Admin). I'm on Win 10, 64-bit. Perhaps I may have to go into the registry? Best regards, J.D. Haltigan ***************************************** J.D. I also experimented with various fonts and settings until it finally seemed to stick. I never edited the registry.

Hi All, I continue to experience an issue with the navigation pane appearing whenever I use the CTRL+HOME keys in the syntax editor window. It places the cursor in the upper left of the nav pane
(not the command syntax window) so I have to repoint the cursor to the editor window over and over. After CTRL+HOME the nav pane check box in the editor ribbon (View > Show Navigation Pane) is reselected when it started out as clear. But the global Show Nav Pane checkbox remains clear. I’ve run SPSS as Admin, looked in the registry (values all look OK), I’ve reinstalled SPSS (repair mode), and I shut my machine down each evening. The next day, there it is. Not sure
what else to do - switching to another editor isn’t a help because color coding is helpful and cutting and pasting is a hassle. Any thoughts? Happy Holidays! Jon Peck reached out to say that he was not seeing the weird nav pane behavior that I described, but also mentioned that he had installed the latest fix pack (and I had not). After installing, it worked! Thank you Jon! Now it can be a wonderful holiday season!
