Has anybody using SPSS 16.0.1 for MS Windows had a problem with disappearing
data files? I've had this problem twice. I thought perhaps my PC had a virus or some such thing, but my virus scan turned up nothing. And my PC is a relatively new, clean system. As it turns out, a few others have encountered this phenomenon. Anybody else? For those of you who have experienced this problem, any suggestions for a remedy, beyond the obvious one of creating a lot of backups? It happened to me yesterday. I had to retrieve the file from our backup
from Friday. If no back up I could have been in a terrible situation. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Wesley Joe Sent: Wednesday, 5 March 2008 1:21 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Vanishing data files with SPSS 16.0.1 for Windows Has anybody using SPSS 16.0.1 for MS Windows had a problem with disappearing data files? Yes. SPSS tech support is looking into this. They most likely need more
information about the systems people are using. I would suggest contacting them to see if you can add another piece to the puzzle. In the meantime, I make double backups of everything and I do not click on the "x" to close, but use the "file" "close" option. This can be an issue with 15 and up as recent versions allow multiple
files to be open at one time. You should not have a problem if you create or open only one file. However, if you define more than one within a single job, be sure to specify: DATASET NAME xxxxxx . to distinguish each one. Once defined a particular file can be activated using: DATASET ACTIVATE xxxxxx .
