Windows 10

John F Hall

I recently upgrade to (free) Windows 10 and have been experiencing problems.  SPSS 23 will work, but won’t switch off when I close the last Data Editor.  I tried three times and ended up using the Task Manager.  Video editing software either won’t start at all or needs circuitous workarounds.  Has anyone else had similar problems?

Re: Windows 10

Jignesh Sutar
I've experienced this on previous/all SPSS releases (SPSS not shutting down when trying to close last remaining data editor) so I suspect it is not relating to the upgrade to Windows 10.

I've never been able to pin point what might be causing this but it often occurs when I'm running a syntax in its entiretyi.e. "run all" (and then perhaps making edits and running all again) which has multiple datasets being generated ect.

Hi John
I haven't had that particular problem (although I have had other strange things happen such as the Start Menu  and Search box refusing to work, a problem that had been documented early in the year in the Windows Insider preview).

You could try running the apps in question in Compatibility Mode for the version of Windows they were running correctly in previously.
I don't know if it will work, but you may think it worth a try. I hope it helps.

This link explains how:

Adrian (and Tim and Jignesh)

Thanks for advice on this.  I’ve set compatibility to Windows 7 for SPSS and the video editing programs.  Will test and keep you posted as to results.

Old thread, but I have an old computer.

I'm currently still running Windows 7 but need to upgrade. Does anyone know
if version 21.0 will run on Windows 10?

I don't know the answer to this question, although I am sure that V21 is not officially supported on Win 10  It will probably mostly work, but this link
has a lot of tips about how to get older programs running on Win 10.  The most important is probably running as Administrator.

Another thing to look at if there are problems is Win 19 Program Compatibility Mode.

Re: Windows 10

John F Hall

I’m running SPSS 24 on Win10Pro (loaded against MS advice on my old Asus Elite).

SPSS used to take 2 mins to start, but now only takes 30 seconds.

Taskbar opens a second icon which shows all open files.

From cold reboot, screen displays Asus F2 etc (with black screen) but skips straight through to

“Welcome John”  then direct to Desktop, already populated 4 mins and no Bing tab.  No need to click on anything.

From “Shut down”

0’30” Displays Asus (Press  F2 etc to reset BIOS) but skips Picture of the Day

2’30” Welcome John

1’00”  Desktop, already populated 4 mins: no Bing tab.

From “Sleep”

Goes straight to Desktop with no Bing tab.  Time varies according to duration of Sleep.

Does this mean Win10Pro is learning to mange my computer using AI?

Re: Windows 10

parisec-2
thanks for the feedback. It's good to know if my 2014 laptop dies, i can use
v21 in some capacity on Win 10. But i decided to wait on the upgrade until i
am forced so that the company will pay for upgrades to both the laptop and
spss.

John H, you would appreciate the last episode of Silicon Valley :-)
