hi, I calculated an index, which is simply the mean of some columns, obtained with the count function.
The actual range is 2-12, but I would like to adapt the range to 0-10. So it's not a recode, but I guess I should apply a mathematical function or formula. Do you have some suggestions? Thanks |

Are you perhaps overthinking it? Doesn't simply subtracting by 2 give you want you want....
If that does not work if you give an example of what you have now and what you want in the end it would be more clear. |

You need to provide EXACT specifics of what you did if you expect any reasonable response.
Your 'mean of some columns, obtained with the count function' is a rather imprecise statement.

Ok, why don't you just subtract 2 from the value of that variable?

Compute x2 = mean(x)-2.
. . but why not compute an actual score from 12 items (-2) then play with it? I don't believe enough information has been provided by OP to consider this a 'reasonable' suggestion ;-)
Ditto to Andy and John.

Thanks to all, the original range was only a case, but it can change, so I figured out that it’s more a simple mathematical issue, after investigating I came with the steps to adapt every index to a desidered range
Normalized index= (your original_index – MIN)/( MAX - MIN) You obtain values between [0;1] Adapted to a range= normalized index (delta – gamma) + gamma Delta: max value of desidered index, e.g. 10 Gamma: min value of desidered index, e.g. 0 Hope this could help someone, may be it was not an appropriate 3d for SPSS, but I was just wandering if there were a specific function... |
