infant mortality syntax

Rodrigo Briceño-2
Hello SPSS co-listers. I'm having a hard time trying to find a SPSS syntax for calculation of infant mortality. My database is a health survey from Nicaragua. Do anybody of the list have worked on similar issues?

All the best!

Re: infant mortality syntax

What are the variables capturing that? What type of methodology has the survey used? Short birth history or long birth history?...you can look around in childmortality.org website which basically has the syntax for MICS surveys, or probably you can also check DHS.

Best,

Hrayr

Rodrigo,
It would probably be helpful if you provided us with *your* definition of infant mortality and describe the relevant fields contained in your data.  How do others in your field calculate this variable?

Hi Rodrigo,

I would certainly check out the WHO website for their definitions. Even if your definitions differ from those of WHO, I'd also report the results accourding to WHO standards.
That makes your results more internationally comparable. See e.g.: http://www.who.int/healthinfo/statistics/mortality/en/index.html

Regards,
Albert-Jan
