opening older SPSS files

Handel, Richard W.

Hi All,

Is there a reason why SPSS 17.0 (I can’t bring myself to call it PASW) would not be able to open an older (i.e., Ver 10) .sav file?

Thanks!

Rick

Hi Rick,

  Your version 10 file should be readable by version 17. To be of much help, we would need a few more details.

How do you try to open the file? If you are double-clicking the file’s icon to open, see what happens if you open it from the

File->Open->Data menu within Statistics 17.

What happens when you try to open the file? Is there an error message?

Here is the error message.  Either way of trying to open the file gives the same result.

GET

  FILE='C:\GBP\MMPIAExtendedReport_PearsonArchival.sav'.

>Error.  Command name: GET FILE

>Invalid PASW Statistics system file: C:\GBP\MMPIAExtendedReport_PearsonArchival.sav (DATA1204)

>This command not executed.

>Error # 1405 in column 8.  Text: C:\GBP\MMPIAExtendedReport_PearsonArchival.sav

>Error when attempting to get a data file.
